Caring for you as we would for ourselves

Cancer Surgery

Surgery is a local treatment for cancer, which aims to remove the tumor, the lymph nodes close to the tumor, and any metastases. It can be used by itself or in combination with other treatments such as radiotherapy and medication.

Surgery is often the first step in treating cancer. Other treatments administered after surgery (adjuvant therapy) have the aim of destroying any remaining cancer cells in the body or around the tumor site.

Sometimes, chemotherapy or radiotherapy is carried out before surgery; this is referred to as neoadjuvant therapy. The aim of this is to shrink the tumor.

Cancer surgery is performed by surgeons with different specialisms depending mainly on the location of the tumor. At Hôpital de La Tour, our surgeons form part of the multidisciplinary team responsible for patient care. You can find below details of the specialists from the various fields.
