Under the agreement, Hôpital de La Tour will develop a comprehensive medical facility for Alinghi Red Bull Racing that the team can rely on for all aspects of competition-related medical care, including emergencies, illnesses, and other injuries.
Dr. Finn Mahler, Chief Medical Officer of the Swiss Olympic Medical Center at Hôpital de La Tour, will be responsible for coordinating and supervising this facility, which—in conjunction with the on-site medical services—will meet all of the team’s needs. As Chief Medical Officer, he will also be involved early on in coaching and preparing the sailors to minimize the risk of injury.
For Pierre-Yves Jorand, Sports Director of Alinghi Red Bull Racing, this partnership made particular sense: “The America’s Cup is a physically demanding event, during which sailors are exposed to significant risks of injury and fatigue due to the speed of the boats. It was therefore essential for us to have access to the highest level of medical care, and we knew we could find it at Hôpital de La Tour, particularly with Dr. Finn Mahler, who is very familiar with this sport.”
Dr. Finn Mahler adds: “The Alinghi Red Bull Racing project is led by an interdisciplinary team constantly striving for excellence and performance. We are honored to be able to contribute to this unique challenge through the full range of expertise offered by our Swiss Olympic Medical Center.”
The partnership will begin this year and continue through the end of the competition in 2024.
