Caring for you as we would for ourselves

Pediatric Cardiorespiratory Physical Therapy

The Cardiorespiratory Physical Therapy Department at Hôpital de La Tour provides inpatient and outpatient pediatric care for acute respiratory conditions. Our specialists also support parents and teach them the proper steps to take when dealing with their children’s conditions.

What We Offer

Pediatric cardiorespiratory physical therapy services include:

  • Clinical evaluation (medical history, lung auscultation, vital signs, oxygen saturation and heart rate, respiratory rate, etc.)
  • Treatments tailored to each case: nebulizer therapy, nasopharyngeal clearance (blowing the nose), gentle bronchial drainage techniques (gentle clearing), treatments using noninvasive ventilation, CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure)
  • Breathing exercises presented as fun games (balloons, flutes, pinwheels, bubbles, straws, feathers, etc.)
  • Regular clinical monitoring
  • Family education

Who is it for?

This care is available to all children (ages 0 to 18), including those who are obese, and covers, in particular, the treatment of the following conditions:

  • Colds
  • Rhinitis
  • Chronic bronchitis
  • Bronchiolitis
  • ENT conditions (upper airway obstruction)
  • Respiratory diseases
  • Childhood asthma
  • Cystic fibrosis
  • Respiratory hyperventilation syndrome (post-COVID, stress).

It is also aimed at parents and guardians to teach them the proper techniques (blowing the nose) and provide them with hygiene advice.

These services are covered by basic health insurance (LaMal).

What for?

The goal of this care is to ensure regular monitoring of the child’s clinical condition, as well as exercise retraining to improve the child’s cardiorespiratory fitness in cases of obesity.

It is designed to reduce the burden on emergency departments and private practices by providing a facility specifically equipped to reassure families.

Our specialists provide information, therapeutic education sessions, and guidance for families (primary prevention):

  • Measures to prevent respiratory illnesses, early warning signs (managing a runny nose, cough, and nasal congestion)
  • Signs of worsening condition (appropriate management of fever, loss of appetite, dehydration, or signs of increasing breathing difficulties)
  • Training in nasopharyngeal drainage with their children
  • Support and follow-up using a motivational interviewing approach

By whom?
