Hôpital de La Tour has a department for hygiene, prevention, and control of infections (HPCI department). Not all healthcare institutions are fortunate enough to have one within their own facility, even though its role is key to ensuring the safety of both patients and staff.
The HPCI department at Hôpital de La Tour consists of two specialized nurses, an infectious disease specialist, and two lead nurses working in surgery and pediatrics.
Hospitals are unique environments that combine vulnerable patients with invasive procedures (urinary catheters, intravascular catheters, surgical procedures, drains, etc.). This environment is therefore conducive to the development of infections. The HPCI department’s mission is to do everything possible to limit the occurrence, impact, or spread of infections within the hospital and thereby ensure the safety of patients and all staff members.
Its mission is divided into three main areas: prevention, surveillance, and training and information.
